Resource Therapy (RT) is a short term and long lasting therapy that deals with the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. It’s a therapy that works with the part of the person that has the problem, which is why it’s a quick and effective way of helping your clients to inner freedom.

Resource Therapy is a  psychotherapy based on the understanding that the personality is composed of parts. The part that presents an issue in therapy is seldom the part that needs change. The presenting part is complaining about another personality part.

The Resource Therapist brings the part of the

personality that needs change into the consciousness

so it can be worked on directly.

This facilitates a quicker, deeper, and longer lasting change.

A theory of personality underlies Resource Therapy.
The following terms are core to that theory:

Resource State: A personality part
Conscious State: Only one Resource State may occupy the conscious at any time.
Surface States: Other parts that are observing and interacting with the Conscious State. These parts will have recall of what happened while they were surface.  The Conscious State is able hear their suggestions or complaints.
Underlying States: Subconscious parts that are dissociated from the conscious. They will not have a memory of what happened while they were underlying.

If a Resource State moves to the Conscious from an underlying position the person will not recall what was just happening. Sometimes clients may notice this while driving or while reading. A person suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder will notice this often.
States often change positions from Conscious, Surface, and Underlying positions.
